Unión Fenosa Distribución, the electricity distributor of Gas Natural Fenosa in Spain, has added drones to the team responsible for supervising its electricity installations. The use of these unmanned aerial devices represents a significant step forward in the task of supervising and improving the company’s electricity networks as they offer new streamlining and cost efficiency solutions as well as improved safety by reducing the risks faced by inspection staff.

The use of drones complements the helicopter flights that the company already completes in order to capture aerial information and will replace such activities as rooftop inspections, which will all be carried out by these remote controlled devices. Furthermore, their use during technical inspections will enable the amount of works at height to be reduced, exhaustive inspections of support structures and, for example, the checking of installations at outdoor substations
